Project: Pétanque
Together with Photojournalist and Filmmaker Mailee Osten-Tan and the team from UNDP LaoPDR, I’d art directed and produced a Title Design for the documentary titled ‘Pétanque’ (which has been renamed ‘The Invisible Scar’).
The title design drew inspiration from the themes of the documentary: Parenthood, Childhood innocence and death. My approach to Pétanque’s title design, done by hand with crayon on paper, was also heavily inspired by Pablo Ferro’s design for Stanley Kubrick’s movie ‘Dr. Strangelove’, which explored a similar theme: The Cold War.
I wanted to inject the same spirit, evocativeness and effectiveness in Pétanque’s title through an imperfect hand-lettering style that mimicked a child’s handwriting to help reaffirm the need for regional commitment to make our part of the world a safe place for children, their families
and peers.

"On this International Mine Awareness Day, we're moved to share the story of Layoud, a young boy from Lao PDR whose life was forever altered by an encounter with unexploded ordnance (UXO). Layoud's tale is a reminder of why this year's theme,"Protecting Lives, Building Peace,"is so vital.”
